Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine K.Eliseev took part in the meeting of NATO-Ukraine Commission, chaired by the Deputy Secretary General C.Bizonyero, which was held at the NATO headquarter in Brussels.

 

The main topic of the meeting was key foreign policy priorities of Ukraine after the election of President of Ukraine, as well as the development of political dialogue and practical cooperation between NATO and Ukraine within the framework of an Annual National Program in 2010.

 

K.Yeliseev emphasized the consistency of the foreign policy of Ukraine. It confirmed the continuity of basic foreign policy priorities, such as European integration, consolidation of strategic partnership with Russia in all spheres, the development of partnership with the United States, pragmatic cooperation with NATO, good relations with surrounding countries, broad and open cooperation in the field of international security and so on.

 

Deputy Minister emphasized that the main task today is to ensure stable and sustainable democratic development of the Ukrainian state by introducing wide-ranging reforms to achieve high socio-economic standards of living in Ukraine.

 

Yeliseev thanked NATO for assistance in overcoming the crises of natural origin, including floods, as well as the protection of Ukrainian seamen.

 

Representatives of NATO member states noted the free and transparent presidential elections in Ukraine, which demonstrated the democratic process in the country. It was expressed the satisfaction with the rapid formation of a coalition in parliament and approval of a new Ukrainian government.

 

 The participants welcomed the first foreign policy steps of the President of Ukraine, including a visit to Brussels and resuscitation strategic partnership with Russia. The presentations were marked by the desire of Ukraine to ensure a consistent, predictable and pragmatic foreign policy.

 

 In the framework of the visit in Brussels, Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bizonyero and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Dirk Brenhelmann.

 

NATO confirmed the continuity of party position on NATO cooperation with Ukraine and expressed its readiness to support the implementation of internal reforms in Ukraine.
